P.I.C.E. General English Online Courses

Welcome to Perth International Language Academy’s exciting new online and distant learning courses. Through PICE’s Learning Management System (LMS), you will now be able to attend face-to-face language classes with our teachers from the comfort of your home. Our courses will provide you with all the guidance and assessments to enable you to reach your desired language goals. We currently offer Pre-intermediate and Intermediate level courses.

In these General English courses, your teacher will guide you through the reading, writing, listening, speaking and grammar skills required to reach competency at this level. Each week will focus on a different topic to enable your functional vocabulary to increase week by week. You will be able to interact with your own teacher and classmates through face-to-face classes and extra activities available through the PICE student portal.

Day and evening classes available

We are currently offering Pre-intermediate and Intermediate level full-time General English courses. These are delivered during the day or in the evening hours Perth time zone (GMT+8). Here are the timetables for both options. Students are expected to spend the last hour of their daily lesson time on independent study. However, this is supervised by your teacher so you can use this opportunity to ask for your teacher's assistance and advice.

We offer only full-time courses. That means you will attend 20 hrs of online lessons every week for the duration of your course. Just like in every ordinary school, you will also work with other students in the same group and take part in all class activities. After every one-hour lesson, you will have a short break to help you relax, stretch your legs and perhaps have something to eat and drink. Your online lessons are delivered using Zoom video conferencing which enables you to actively interact with your teacher and other students in your group.

Our Students' Portal contains many useful features. You can socialise online outside your lesson time and practise English with your friends and colleagues. You will also be able to access supplementary study material through our video portal, web portal and file download facilities.

How can you start studying online?

It is simple...

1. Placement test
Book a placement test and interview
First, you need to book an online placement test and a face-to-face interview. The test and the interview together last about 30 minutes. You will receive your test results soon after.

2. Your general English level
Your study group level
After the placement test, you will receive an email with the details of your test results and your online study group level. Currently, there are two study groups: pre-intermediate and intermediate.
3. Course fee and textbooks
Fee payment and course book purchase
Next, you need to pay the course fees and purchase the e-textbook and e-workbook for the course. We will send you the link to the correct bookshop page.
4. Student registration

After you pay your course fees, you will receive an email inviting you to log in into P.I.C.E. Student Portal. You will need to complete your profile with your photo and a few sentences about you once you have logged in.
5. Study group and timetables

After you are registered, you will be placed in the correct study group for your level. Your study timetable and the lesson material will be available for you to access and use during the course.
6. Technical requirements
Online study technical requirements
To study online you need access to the Internet, a web camera and a headset with a microphone. All the face-to-face lessons are conducted using Zoom conferencing software.

Placement Test Booking Form

The test lasts for around 30 minutes and consists of a face-to-face interview with our Director of Studies and  a written test that follows the interview. This test will help us decide whether you should be placed in our Pre-intermediate or Intermediate study group.
